Join Miss Kitty Oaks for a workshop that weaves together contemporary dance and the art of the tease.
Contemporary is an expressive style of dance that incorporates ballet, lyrical, jazz, and modern techniques. It is also a style marked by emotionally charged performance. "In Your Feelings" integrates burlesque with this emotive style of dance through emotional access exercises and expressive choreography. Let's leave it all on the dance floor, shall we?

About the Instructor
MISS KITTY OAKS
Miss Kitty Oaks is a dance-based performer, teacher and choreographer. Her approach to dance + burlesque draws heavily on 25+ years of dance training, 10+ years of professional performance experience and a decade of teaching experience. A CYT since 2010, Kitty culls language and technique from a library of modalities to create her classes. She aims to provide a class experience that is accessible to anyone with a desire to explore their
body through movement.

BURLESQUE CHAIR DANCE
SATURDAY 9/14/2019 W/MISS KITTY OAKS
Miss Kitty Oaks shares her flirty and playful take on dancing with that classic cabaret prop: a chair. Class includes conditioning exercises to make you (and your chair dancing) stronger as well as techniques for moving seamlessly with your prop. Students will have time to improvise and explore on their own as well as the opportunity to learn choreography with the chair.

Folding chairs are provided but participants are welcome to BYO-Chair if so desired. Please wear shoes with a non-slip sole such as dance shoes or sneakers.

SILK VEIL 1
SATURDAY 9/14/2019 W/GAEA LADY
Silk ripples like water & flows like air. It is strong, supple, sensual, and steeped in history, stories, process, and myth. Combined with light and movement, silk invokes dramatic magic for the human senses.
Join Gaea Lady in this exploration of movement with silk. Learn specific patterns, philosophies, and techniques to integrate dancer with fabric. We explore dynamic whips, dreamy floats, infinite recursive spins, weaves, drapes, wraps, and improvisation to ignite the senses and creativity within. Students will dance with unweighted veils, flags, & weighted veils - learning the basics of Gaea’s specialty veil.

Students should bring a silk or light fabric veil, at least 6 feet long, and/or bring large fabric costume pieces for improvisation in class. Gaea will have a limited amount of veils available for sale & borrow. For custom orders in advance, contact ​gaealady@gmail.com

FAN DANCE FUNDAMENTALS
SUNDAY 5/26 1-2:30PM
WITH MISS KITTY OAKS
Feather fans have an effect like none other but they often seem out of reach and hard to handle. Learn hands on how to maneuver these beautiful props with grace and ease.
Fundamentals Covered:
-basic types of feather and stave options
-budget friendly alternatives to feather fans
-how to hold your fans
-foundational fan dancing technique including a breakdown of classic/standard fan dance movements
-how to make the most of your fan reveals

HEELS DANCE CLASS
SUNDAY 5/26, 2:30PM - 4PM
WITH MISS KITTY OAKS
Whether you rock biscuit baskets or sky high stilettos this class will teach you how to dance in your favorite pair of heels. Warm up includes core and ankle conditioning as well as tips about supporting healthy feet / ankles so you can keep dancing for many years to come. You will learn a chunk of choreography made for dancing in heels then perform it in groups with the chance to add your own flavor.

FAN DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY
SUNDAY 6/23 1-2:30PM
WITH MISS KITTY OAKS
Build on the basics from Fan Dance Fundamentals and learn a feather fan group dance! Choreography will rely primarily on the use of feather fans and will incorporate more advanced dance movement than the Fundamentals class. If you do not already own a pair of feather fans please arrange to rent or borrow a pair for use during this class. Participants may share their feather fans at their own discretion.

Please wear comfortable, form fitting clothes you can move in and shoes you may wear while fan dancing (heels, ballet shoes, barefoot, etc). Class is open to all ages 18+.
